5 Lovely Independent Shops on Marylebone High Street

London is often described as one of the best shopping cities in the world and our own Marylebone neighbourhood has some of the most intriguing shops in the city, without having to fight through the crowds (though we are fortunate in that you can also walk to Oxford Street’s world-famous department stores from our doorstep).

The eclectic range of shopping opportunities nearby means you don’t have to travel far to find a range of unforgettable gifts for your nearest and dearest.

Allow us to introduce to you to five of our favourite independent shops on Marylebone High Street just a few minutes’ walk from Montagu Place…

Daunt Books has been part of Marylebone High Street for the last 25 years. The building was originally purpose built for the antiquarian booksellers Francis Edwards in 1910 and still features the big arch window and galleried main room.

Although they specialise in fiction and non-fiction travel books (arranged in the bookshop by country) they have expanded their collection to include books for children, food lovers and those who love art, photography and design. If you can’t decide what to buy or are looking for book suggestions then there is no better place to go. Daunt Books has that wonderful feel of a bookshop from another era and you’re highly likely to stumble onto a gem you didn’t initially imagine buying!

Address: Daunt Books, 83 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4QW

Continuing with the travel theme, La Portegna is a Spanish boutique inspired by a lion rug from Ernest Hemingway belonging to the founder’s grandparents.

Specialising in a collection of travel bags, accessories and shoes to ‘recapture that spirit of adventurous travel’, the materials are natural and handcrafted by artisans. For an extra special gift, items can also be personalised in a choice of 5 different colours. Great fun!

Address: La Portegna, 26 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4PJ

Ortigia Sicilia brings a little piece of Italy to London. Inspired by the rich culture and history of the island, the traditional soaps and perfumes use natural ingredients combined with modern ethics. There are a range of gifts, silk scarves, candles, aftershave, shaving gel and products for the home.

Address: 23 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4PG

New Cavendish Jewellers is one of Marylebone’s oldest and most exclusive retailers. Working solely with precious metals in their jewellery, they are also an authorised retailer for top watch brands such as Cartier, Breguet and Audemars Piguet. The family-run business prides itself on its customer service providing a bespoke and knowledgeable service.

Address: 2 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4NF

Last but not least, treat yourself and a chocolate lover in your life to a voyage of the senses from Haute Chocolaterie, Marcolini. The Marylebone boutique opened in 2015 and hailing from Belgium, their chocolates, macarons, pastries and sweet treats focus on using the best quality cocoa beans from around the world.

Address: 37 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4EQ.

With such a fantastic variety of retailers on Marylebone High Street you can take the hassle out of shopping for presents, during the January sales or at any time of the year.
